Why Do I Feel Full After Eating Little ?

Abdominal Bloating is a feeling in which the abdomen is uncomfortably full and gaseous and may be visibly swollen. Bloating is a common complaint among both adults and children. Abdominal bloating interferes with a person’s ability to work and participate in social and recreational activities.

The symptoms of bloating can be an uncomfortable feeling of fullness, tightness, or swelling in the abdomen. This is accompanied by pain, excessive gas, frequent burping or belching and abdominal rumbling or grumbling.
  • Swallowing too much air
  • Constipation
  • Heartburn
  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Intolerance to dairy products
  • Eating too fast
  • Weight gain
  • Overgrowth of bacteria in the small bowel
  • Hormonal flux
Abdominal bloating can be prevented or its severity can be reduced by following few simple things like not chewing gum as it leads to swallowing of extra air which leads to bloating. Avoiding the intake of carbonated drinks, gassy foods and a few vegetables such as cabbage, dried beans and lentils reduces the effect of abdominal bloating. Eating slowly and avoiding the usage of straw also reduces the chances of gas accumulation.

Do You Have Trouble While Swallowing ?

Severe or minor difficulty to swallow food is known as Dysphagia. Usually dysphagia is seen as a precursor or a symptom of some disease or disorder of the throat or the oesophagus. Dysphagia might appear in any category of people though it is more common in old aged people, small babies and people with brain disorders.

Brain disorders or diseases that alter the co-ordination between the throat muscles, oesophagus and the mouth can be a cause for this disease as it is the synergy between these organs that makes the swallowing of food possible. Scleroderma, swollen tonsils or stress related problems can also be the cause for dysphagia. The difficulty in swallowing might also be endured due to oesophageal problems like oesophageal cancer, oesophageal reflux disease, abnormal spasm of the oesophageal walls, obstructions in oesophagus or scarring on the walls of the oesophagus that makes it narrow.
It is usually diagnosed with the help of X-ray, X-ray of barium coated throat and oesophagus, laryngoscopy or endoscopy. Oesophagus pH test or Oesophageal manometry are also made use of sometimes.
The usual treatments comprise of medication in case of acid reflux. Endoscopy is used in case there is some foreign object stuck in the oesophagus. Very rarely surgical methods are employed to treat dysphagia when it happens due to deposition fat or any other natural substance which hinders the free transit of food from the mouth to the stomach.

Gallstones Treatment in Chennai

Gallstones are hardened deposits found in a small pear-shaped sac under the liver in the gallbladder fluid. The gallbladder fluid is a greenish brown liquid also known as bile. This bile is manufactured by the liver and includes cholesterol, fats, bile salts, proteins, and bilirubin (waste of red blood cells). This bile is very important in helping the small intestines to break down and emulsify fats that will be absorbed by the blood stream.

But sometimes this bile, based on its composition, becomes concentrated and develops as gallstones. If not disturbed, these gallstones can continue sitting in the gallbladder without causing any problems. But, if these gallstones move and block the cystic or the drainage duct from the gallbladder, then it can lead to inflammation and infections in the gallbladder or the bile ducts, causing severe pain.

Who is Likely to Develop Gallstones?

Gallstones can be found in any adult aged above 50, who has undergone any changes in the composition of bile leading to stagnation and thereby, the formation of stones. This change could have been due to higher levels of estrogen or triglycerides, diabetes or cholesterol lowering drugs. However, people who are obese or have a family history of gallstones are more likely to suffer. Gallstones are more common in women than men and among native Americans and Mexican Americans.

Types of Gallstones

Gallstones can be found in many shapes and sizes. It could be as small as a grain of sand or as big as a golf ball. There are three main types of Gallstones. Mixes stones, the most common one, occurs in batches and consists of cholesterol and salts.

Cholesterol stones, as the name suggests, is a fatty substance that is important for the overall metabolism of our body. These stones can grow in size and are even likely to block the bile duct. Pigment stones, as the name suggests, is made from bile pigment which is greenish brown in colour.

Symptoms of Gallstones

Generally, until the gallstones block the bile duct, no symptoms are experienced. But once the gallstones block the drainage duct, the following symptoms should not be ignored:

Biliary colic
: A sharp shooting pain on the right side of the upper abdomen or into the chest, that lasts anywhere between 30 minutes to a few hours. This sometimes also causes vomiting.

Acute cholecystitis: A very serious condition where the pain is similar to Biliary colic but more severe and lasts for many days. The pain is experienced around the neck, shoulder blade, breast bone or the entire left side.

Chronic cholecystitis: It is similar to acute cholecystitis but may take several months or years to become fully normal, causing mild inflammation, scarring, and stiffness in the gallbladder.

: When stones reach the bile duct, you will experience jaundice (due to built up bile in the ducts), fever, and chills with severe pain.

Pancreatitis: When Gallstones get stuck in the bile duct that passes through the pancreas, it discharges enzymes causing acute pancreatitis.

Diagnose of Gallstones

Gallstones are diagnosed after checking the medical history and physically examining the patient. These include blood tests, X-rays, endoscopic ultrasound, CAT scan, Magnetic Resonance Cholangio Pancreatigraphy (MRCP), HIDA scan, and Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio Pancreatigraphy (ERCP).

Gallstones Treatment

The treatment of Gallstones depends on its size and severity. Sometimes, they can be dissolved using medicines, but even then, the chances of recurrence are high. The soft and small stones can be shattered using sound waves generated by a machine through Lithotripsy.

Generally, in about 80% of the cases, a surgery called gallbladder cholecystectomy must be performed. In acute cases, an open cholecystectomy must be done. In most cases, Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy is performed where the gallbladder is removed through a small incision in the abdomen. This type of surgery heals faster and leaves a smaller scar as compared to open surgery.

Piles Treatment in Chennai

Piles also called as hemorrhoids are the swollen blood vessels in or around the anus and rectum. These veins are very painful. Piles occur due to the increased pressure in the external and internal veins of the anal canal. Hemorrhoids can be classified into two types:
  • Internal
  • External
Internal piles occur above 2-4 cm above the opening of the anus. On the other hand, external piles occur on the outside edge of the anus. These are painful because the lower part of the anal canal has painful nerve fibers. Internal piles are common and less painful because the upper anal canal has no pain nerve fibers.

Symptoms of piles
  • After going to the toilet, a feeling that the bowels are still full
  • Pain while defecating
  • Bright red blood after a bowel movement
  • A hard lump may be felt around the anus. This can be painful
  • The area surrounding the anus will be red and sore

Internal hemorrhoids can be classified into
Grade 1: These are small swellings in the inside lining of the anal canal. These are common piles.
Grade 2: Larger than grade 1. While going to the toilet they may be partly pushed out and quickly return back.
Grade 3: Seen outside the anus. The patient feels them hanging out but can push inside with fingers.
Grade 4: They are large and stay outside and cannot be pushed back with fingers.

Treatment for piles
  • Injection or Sclerotherapy
  • Stapling

Sclerotherapy is an inexpensive and effective option for treating piles. In this method, an injection of sclerosants is made above the hemorrhoids which result in its shrinking.

This method uses a circular stapling device to remove the hemorrhoidal tissue and close the wound.
