Get Rid of Hernia with Tension Free Hernia Repair Treatment

Hernia is a condition where the tissues or internal organs bulges out through the wall of skin enclosing it. This cannot be cured with medications and needs to be removed surgically. The advancement in technology has put forward a tension free hernia repair method which has become a standard procedure in treatment of hernia.

Tension free hernia repair as a treatment of hernia, is done with the goal of providing an effective and successful cure for the patient with the lowest post-operative and operative discomfort. It also assures lowest recurrence rate. The patients can return to their normal life routines within a day of the procedure.

Types of Hernia

 Hernia Repair Procedure

The procedure of hernia repair is carried out after administering spinal anaesthesia. The surgeon creates an incision of about 6cm over the location of hernia to place a loop of bowel or fatty lump of tissue into the abdomen. A mesh is attached to the weaker parts of abdominal walls to strengthen them.

The procedure makes use of a fine, sterile and inert mesh for bridging the hernia defect, in place of the conventional method of sewing together the sides of incisions with stitches. Since the muscle tissues are not sewn together, the tension caused due to the stitches can be eliminated in this method.

Advantages of Hernia Repair

The procedure is quick, painless, easy with very less or no discomfort present after the procedure. The healing is done so quick that the patient can virtually walk out of the operation theatre. The procedure does not demand the need of prolonged hospitalisation. The recovery period is fairly small and do not require bed rest. The main advantage of tension free hernia repair is that it can be performed on all, irrespective of their age.

Obesity is a widespread phenomenon in today’s world. It is caused as a product of our unhealthy eating habits and considered to be a lifestyle disease. When controlled diet and regular exercise fail to bring an effect people go for bariatric surgery for losing weight. Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy is a popular bariatric surgery method.
The main concept of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy is to restrict the amount of food that the stomach can hold. This is brought about by restricting a part of the stomach thereby reducing its volume and quantity of food consumed at a time. Unlike other bariatric surgery procedures, laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy does not lead to malabsorption. Thus, it does not cause deficiency of nutrients in patients.

Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy is conducted as a standalone procedure or as a step of multi stage procedure in severe cases. The procedure limits food consumption by satisfying hunger quickly. The restricted stomach provides a feeling of fullness even with intake of small quantity of food. It reduces the production of hunger hormone as well.
Sleeve gastrectomy is a laparoscopic bariatric surgery procedure. It is minimally invasive and requires about four or five small incisions in the abdominal area for inserting the laparoscope and other instruments needed for the surgery.
The surgery is done by removing a portion (about 75%) of stomach and leaving behind a narrow portion of tube or sleeve. Intestines are not bypassed or removed. The procedure takes about an hour to complete.
The advantages of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy include a very small recovery time, improvement in obesity related ailments, lack of foreign body issues like in other forms of bariatric surgery, decreased appetite and so on. The procedure helps to decrease about 70% of the unwanted weight during the first year after surgery. This procedure does not have complications associated with surgeries as well.

Gallstones Treatment in Chennai

Gallstones are hardened deposits found in a small pear-shaped sac under the liver in the gallbladder fluid. The gallbladder fluid is a greenish brown liquid also known as bile. This bile is manufactured by the liver and includes cholesterol, fats, bile salts, proteins, and bilirubin (waste of red blood cells). This bile is very important in helping the small intestines to break down and emulsify fats that will be absorbed by the blood stream.

But sometimes this bile, based on its composition, becomes concentrated and develops as gallstones. If not disturbed, these gallstones can continue sitting in the gallbladder without causing any problems. But, if these gallstones move and block the cystic or the drainage duct from the gallbladder, then it can lead to inflammation and infections in the gallbladder or the bile ducts, causing severe pain.

Who is Likely to Develop Gallstones?

Gallstones can be found in any adult aged above 50, who has undergone any changes in the composition of bile leading to stagnation and thereby, the formation of stones. This change could have been due to higher levels of estrogen or triglycerides, diabetes or cholesterol lowering drugs. However, people who are obese or have a family history of gallstones are more likely to suffer. Gallstones are more common in women than men and among native Americans and Mexican Americans.

Types of Gallstones

Gallstones can be found in many shapes and sizes. It could be as small as a grain of sand or as big as a golf ball. There are three main types of Gallstones. Mixes stones, the most common one, occurs in batches and consists of cholesterol and salts.

Cholesterol stones, as the name suggests, is a fatty substance that is important for the overall metabolism of our body. These stones can grow in size and are even likely to block the bile duct. Pigment stones, as the name suggests, is made from bile pigment which is greenish brown in colour.

Symptoms of Gallstones

Generally, until the gallstones block the bile duct, no symptoms are experienced. But once the gallstones block the drainage duct, the following symptoms should not be ignored:

Biliary colic
: A sharp shooting pain on the right side of the upper abdomen or into the chest, that lasts anywhere between 30 minutes to a few hours. This sometimes also causes vomiting.

Acute cholecystitis: A very serious condition where the pain is similar to Biliary colic but more severe and lasts for many days. The pain is experienced around the neck, shoulder blade, breast bone or the entire left side.

Chronic cholecystitis: It is similar to acute cholecystitis but may take several months or years to become fully normal, causing mild inflammation, scarring, and stiffness in the gallbladder.

: When stones reach the bile duct, you will experience jaundice (due to built up bile in the ducts), fever, and chills with severe pain.

Pancreatitis: When Gallstones get stuck in the bile duct that passes through the pancreas, it discharges enzymes causing acute pancreatitis.

Diagnose of Gallstones

Gallstones are diagnosed after checking the medical history and physically examining the patient. These include blood tests, X-rays, endoscopic ultrasound, CAT scan, Magnetic Resonance Cholangio Pancreatigraphy (MRCP), HIDA scan, and Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio Pancreatigraphy (ERCP).

Gallstones Treatment

The treatment of Gallstones depends on its size and severity. Sometimes, they can be dissolved using medicines, but even then, the chances of recurrence are high. The soft and small stones can be shattered using sound waves generated by a machine through Lithotripsy.

Generally, in about 80% of the cases, a surgery called gallbladder cholecystectomy must be performed. In acute cases, an open cholecystectomy must be done. In most cases, Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy is performed where the gallbladder is removed through a small incision in the abdomen. This type of surgery heals faster and leaves a smaller scar as compared to open surgery.
